Classes without students, students without classes

In this blog I want to talk about a human right that I think is fundamental in the life of every human being and that is EDUCATION, because I consider that this is the only tool that people have to change our reality, guarantee job opportunities and a life more dignified. And without a doubt, this right is one of those that has been most affected by pandemic, since we were all forced to adapt and face this new methodology of virtual education, which from the beginning seemed a very exciting challenge to face. but with the passage of time it has uncovered realities and many emotions around the world.

For more than a year most schools around the world have remained closed, in the special case of Latin America more than 170 million children are out of the classroom, and the saddest thing about this situation is that many of them are low-income people, who live in very unfavorable areas to provide this new education system that requires at least a computer to work on and a good internet to have access. But the most worrying thing is that this reality will continue to be agena for a long time because most schools are closed in the region, which means that learning from home must continue and in the midst of these difficult economic and social situations that leave the virus, low-income families are challenged to choose whether the little money they receive is invested in buying food for the home or in educating their children.

And I like to bring this case as a reflection because we are all students from an excellent university and we have all the financial support and tools to continue studying virtually, but from my personal experience and from what I share with several friends, sometimes we are not aware how privileged we are that we simply ignore virtual classes and sometimes prefer to repeat recordings or not be careful. This is what I mean that they are classes full of students but that we are not really getting enough out of it and I know that this new method of education may be difficult, but it is the reality that we touch and we must adapt and continue our lives. How is it possible that millions of students desperately want to continue studying virtual but do not have the resources to do so and we, if we have the opportunity, we waste it.

With this little reflection that I do, I hope we will be more aware of everything and see it as a way to improve. Besides, I invite you to continue joining initiatives to provide these resources as computers to those who need us. It was very nice last year that I was able to be part of a project of two student groups from the university, where we planned different talks with experts so that people could enter with a voluntary contribution and with all that we raised we were able to buy different tablets for some children from a school here in Medellin and there is nothing more rewarding than being able to help others.

Let's change the world and improve the reality of those who need us
