The gender difference has been a topic of much struggle in recent times, although it is true that significant changes and advances have been made, such as the fact that more girls go to school and that women have held more leadership positions. As heads of companies or even governments, the outlook still needs a lot to improve. For example, in the Middle Eastern countries there are still many inequalities in relation to the role of a man and a woman, such as Pakistan, where women suffer domestic violence when they cannot provide water to their homes. And although the situation is not so drastic in our country, Colombia, there are still many challenges to face and discriminatory social norms.
Among the many obstacles are those that prevent girls and women from exercising their right to study only because of the conception that they are made to work at home and raise children, there are also other problems such as forced marriage, early pregnancy age and gender violence. The COVID-19 pandemics have caused an increase in domestic violence against women and girls, which according to data from the United Nations has reached an increase of almost 30% in different countries, since measures such as quarantine force women to be trapped in homes with overpowering abusers. This is worrying because it could reverse all the progress that has been made in gender equality and in the defense of women's rights.
Investigating a little more in depth on the subject I realized things that I never imagined, such as the fact that 70% of health personnel are women and this type of data is unknown by most people because I have talked about it with my friends and seriously in society we lack a lot to value the love of women. It is also surprising how in the quarantine the majority of dismissals were towards women or also because only 23% of managerial positions in large companies are held by women compared to the entire percentage that remains in front of men. It is incredible to believe that we are still in a society where men earn more than women, even when women obtain greater study achievements. Without a doubt, the existing inequalities for women and girls are present in all areas, from health and the economy to security, and I call for attention to all of us young people who are the future of the world and who are in our hands is changing this problem.
Finally I am attaching an infographic of the United Nations where you can find all the information that I present to you in a much more graphic way and I want to tell you that I am completely open when you want to discuss about the subject because I know how important is to many.
