My COVID experience

I never imagined that I would have this virus that has turned the world, that same virus that has caused around 130 million infected, 2.7 million deaths, many economic losses worldwide and that paralyzed an entire world. But the reality is that no one is exempt from suffering COVID and is now that we appreciate the value of health and being alive. As young people we always imagine ourselves immune to any disease and we never take problems seriously until they touch us and we see the severity of these and everything that is behind them, this is my case and today through this blog I want to share my experience with you.

When all this global pandemic began, I never imagined that it would last so long, much less imagine all the effects it has caused to the world, unfortunately more negative than positive effects. I remember exactly one year ago in March 2020 when we were all imposed to lock ourselves in our homes and forced to change our lifestyle as we knew it. I remember all my impression of living a completely new life, how we had to adapt to seeing our virtual classes and get used a mask to going out on the streets. Time passed, deaths increased but the world had to move on and recover from the close down of more than a million companies and a world unemployment rate of 5.4%.

The restrictions of a quarantine were lowered and people began to get out to the streets, in particular my desire for this moment was enormous because I have always liked to go out and I missed doing it very much. From the moment it was allowed, I ran into the streets, I was not aware of the risk I was taking doing it just because of my desire to see myself with my friends, I was never the best taking care of myself with biosecurity measures and today 9 months later I write this message but with the great difference that today I am the one who is sick with this virus.

When I began to feel weak and needed a diagnostic process for covid-19, I received very bad care and little support from my health system, fortunately I have been very privileged and I have a very good service but in this process I had bad experiences, and this led me to be aware and reflect on the sad reality that millions of people in the world live who face extreme situations of poverty and do not even have access to a dignified health system.

For poor people, medical care is difficult due to the limited conditions of water, electricity and medical equipment, since more than half of the world's population lacks essential health services and has little social protection to support them. In addition to the lack of basic services, approximately 100 million people are being pushed into extreme poverty and not being able to pay for medical care due to different factors such as employment status, education level, among others.

Without any doubt, this pandemic has brought to light all the problems of inequality and the forms of social and economic organization of many countries in the world and the functioning of states, including many problems that were already present before the COVID outbreak. This leaves us as a reflection to demand as citizens a greater state intervention to improve and strengthen a hospital infrastructure in rural regions, which provides excellent care to each individual regardless of their income or socio-economic status and access to basic goods for every corner of the world. To achieve improvement requires a great commitment between governments, organizations and especially the change that you want to offer to society from your reality.

What do you think of this situation❓❓

  2. Ana I am amazed with your experience! it actually made me feel closer to your reality and our country's health system that needs to improve in so many ways. We as young people we believe that we are completely inmune of death but we aren't because this virus don't except anyone, it doesn't matter their age, social class or even citizenship, all of us we are fighting against the same enemy called Covid-19 and the biosecurity and good habits like cleaning our hands and be very careful with who we surround are the best alternatives to continue safe.

  4. Ana i feel is something that all of us lived and experienced sometime during the quarantine because for some person it was easy to handle but for other it was really difficult. You talked about some very important problem in our country that normally for some people weren't there, didn't care about or just didn't know. after all of this i think that people really changed because could see some really hard aspect in the society of our country like inequality economic problem and that we all have to fight to solve this problems.
